Ars et Amici in Croatia — April 16-27, 2009

For our 10th music trip to Europe — and our first to Croatia — Ars & Amici presented concerts and sang masses in Renaissance & Baroque churches in Zagreb, Bjelovar, Djakovo, and Osijek (Croatia) and the Baroque city of Pecs (Hungary). Our chorus of 22 was complemented by a quartet of recorders and outstanding organist Libor Dudas.

• Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 PM: St Elizabeth’s Church, Kertvaros, Pecs (Hungary)
• Sunday, April 26 at 10:30 AM Mass: Zupna crkva Sv, Filipa i Jakova, Vukovar
Our program included
- Medieval works from England, France & Spain
- Venetian Carnival music, ca 1500 featuring penitents, gypsies, scribes & gondoliers
- English music from countryside & chapel by Byrd, Morley, Este, Coprario & Tallis
- Music from High Renaissance Italy by Gastoldi, Maschera, Gabrieli, Marenzio & Frescobaldi
- Early Baroque works by Lotti, Alessandro Scarlatti, Aichinger & Purcell
